Abstract
Kang, Dongho. 2016. Native and Non-native English Teachers' Beliefs about Grammar Instruction and Error Correction in Korean College Contexts. Korean Journal of English Language and Linguistics 16-2, 265-284. Compared to the attention given to L2 learners’ beliefs about language learning, grammar instruction, and error correction, there has been less research specifically into L2 teachers’ beliefs about grammar instruction and error correction in the L2 classroom. Therefore, this study investigated the beliefs of native and non-native teachers of English in Korea regarding grammar instruction and error correction. A total of 57 teachers (native 32 vs. non-native 25) at Korean university participated in the study. The finding showed that both native and non-native teachers thought of grammar instruction necessary and essential, but there were some differences in beliefs between two groups of teachers. Korean teachers valued accuracy, while the native teachers emphasized the importance of communication and meaning. The theoretic discussions will be made at the conclusion.
