Abstract
In this paper, we proposed an overlay-based interactive tutorial for enhancing website usability. The proposed tutorial consisted of the following steps: 1) collecting web log data, 2) extracting user events, and 3) generating the tutorial. The interactive tutorial improved usability by overlaying the next element to be executed on the user's web browser screen in real time through a Chrome Extension program. In this paper, we conducted a user study to evaluate whether the proposed interactive tutorial could help users. First, we confirmed that user could easily adapt to the interactive tutorial through adaptation difficulty analysis. Second, we verified that the proposed tutorial had higher satisfaction than compared to the existing static tutorials (i.e., text and image tutorials).
Therefore, we expect that the proposed tutorial effectively enhances the usability of users who are not familiar with new features and digital minorities.
