Abstract
This paper is based on the ‘GPS Sound Mapping System’ as part of the ‘Sori-gil Project’, which is a part of the ‘King Sejong 100-ri Road Business’ of the Cheong Ju Industrial Culture Foundation. It was a public art project with the purpose of creating an experiential space using a location recognition system so the users can be immersed in the space. Information is provided only through smart phones and sounds and thus without visually interfering with the scenery. Based on digital media methods, the GPS Sound Mapping System realized transparency of the interface by presenting the relationship between the scenery and sound information, as well as real-time interactions with environmental changes. By associating multisensory features, which changes according to the environment, with hearing, it studies techniques which draw not perfunctory information, but instead emotional physical experiences in space. To do this, it presents the conceptual structure of the type of interface needed in an experiential space and the necessary technical content via expression.
