Abstract

The government is trying to expand the organic waste-to-energy(OWE) facilities in order to reducing landfill waste and establish a stable resource recycling society. In this regard, this study attempts to look into the economic effects of expanding the OWE facilities by applying an inter-industry analysis using a 2013 input-output table. In particular, the OWE sector is specified as exogenous to identify the economic effects of the OWE sector on other sectors. The production-inducing effect, value-added creation effect, and employment-inducing effect are quantified based on demand-driven model. The results show that production-inducing effect and value-added creation effect of expanding OWE facilities for the investment of 1.0 won are estimated to be 1.0798 and 0.1739, respectively. The employment-inducing effect of one billion of investment in the expanding OWE facilities is computed to be 0.8820 persons. This information can be utilized in predicting the economic effects of the OWE related activities or policy-making.
