Abstract
Various counseling programs have been developed to enhance interpersonal skills vital for effective social interactions. Among these, role-play has been recognized for its applicability to real-life scenarios; however, it is restricted by environmental limitations and challenges related to self-disclosure. An alternative approach involves leveraging the Metaverse, yet existing platforms are deemed insufficient in maximizing the efficacy of communication training. Consequently, this study conducted extensive literature reviews and interviews to ascertain critical factors for effective communication training programs. Through comprehensive case studies, design elements for role-playing platforms were identified. This research presents a concept for a Metaverse role-play platform aimed at providing a safe environment for participants to systematically cultivate communication techniques that mirror real-life situations. The proposed concept encompasses four pivotal design considerations, namely, replication of communication problematic scenarios, utilization of avatar-based role-switching techniques, suggestion of AI-powered analysis to recommend conversational methods, and provision of dual training modes. This concept serves as a structured foundation to facilitate comprehensive communication skill development within a secure virtual environment.
