Abstract
The biggest change that ChatGPT has brought to the public in the fall of 2022 is the dismantling of the traditional concept of literature. Literary works, which are the product of human creative ideas and sensibilities, can be mass-produced by A.I. in a short period of time, and their quality is expected to be on par with human works in the near future. With the advent of A.I., literature as an art symbolizing human creativity seems to be in crisis now. How will the value of literature change? Literature as we have known it so far has been based on “Anthropocentrism/Humanism” and “Labor Theory of Value” as a legacy of Modernity. That is, literature is a product of the human creativity and a commodity sold as a product in market capitalism. Currently, the literary works produced by A.I. fulfill these conditions, so there is an ongoing debate about whether “Literary Value” exists. Can A.I. produce the same literary value as we know it? If A.I. produces literary values that are no different from those of humans, what will the future of literature be? Or will literary values be maintained in a future where A.I. is fully utilized? Literary value is a product of a system formed in specific historical conditions, so it is not difficult for A.I. to achieve or surpass similar accomplishments. On the contrary, the values appropriated by A.I. have the potential to surpass and surpass human literature, and may even signal the end of the human era. Paradoxically, it is for this reason that the human value of literature can be pursued and maintained. This article attempts to shed light on these issues from a various points, and to forecast the future of humans, AI, and literary values.
