Abstract

While past studies on quality of life of public employees have mostly focused on conceptual discussions or measurement indicators, there have been few systematic and empirical studies on its determinants. Based on this premise, this study empirically analyzed the effect of personnel- and job-related factors on the quality of life of public employees using an ordered logistic model. Results of this empirical study showed that the following five factors were statistically significant: satisfaction of family-friendly policies, fairness of external rewards, fairness of performance appraisal, job autonomy, and job stress. While the first four factors are positively associated with quality of life, job stress has a negative effect. These results imply that public organizations need to develop management strategies and rational policies to improve the quality of life of public employees by addressing personnel- and job- related factors. This study draws attention to determinants having significant impact on the quality of life of public employees.
