Abstract
The needs of housing improvement are increasing in the deteriorated residential area owing to the deadlock of the housing redevelopment project. This study explores the housing improvement policy and program of Japan where the government gives positive aid to the homeowners as a part of housing stock management and draws implications for the development of korean related policy. Japanese government has established the support system of housing improvement such as the diverse programs such as grants, public loans and tax exemption benefits and promotes the participation of the homeowners by reducing their financial burdens. Furthermore, the supportive organizations for housing improvement provide the professional informations to the homeowners. The local government correspond to the needs of housing improvement in alliance with community planning program. Effective programs and supports need to be introduced to activate domestic housing improvement.
