Abstract
This study carries out an empirical analysis of how automation affects integration of work organization, job complexity, task variety, and job autonomy. The hypotheses are developed on the opposing perspectives on the skills effects of automation, and the statistical models are improved upon Bayo-Moriones et al(2010) and Nho(2012). The results of this study indicate that automation has significantly positive effects on integration of work organization measured by integration indicator and the ratios of participants on suggestion plan, continuous improvement plan and self-maintenance. Automation also has a significant positive effect on the ration of participants on multi-skill training as a proxy variable for task variety, and has a weakly positive effect on job autonomy. On the other hand, automation has an insignificantly positive effect on job complexity and skill development duration. Finally the empirical results are outlined and their implications are discussed.
