Abstract
Since only a few korean professional sports clubs are operating their own expense without the support of mother corporations, it is of value to know that there is an efficiency difference among sports clubs, and efficiency difference of clubs in two different sports leagues. This study measures and compares the relative efficiency of Korean professional sports clubs in two different leagues using several DEA (Data Envelopment Analysis) models. In order to do, firstly, this study measures the overall efficiency level, pure technical efficiency level, and scale efficiency level through applying several DEA models such as CCR, BCC, Slack based measure (SBM), FDH. Secondly, this study presents the efficiency difference of clubs in two different sports leagues. through applying the bilateral comparison DEA model. Furthermore, this study also investigates the most productive scale size for professional sports clubs, since it can be sued for benchmarking. The results of this study can provide the insights in operational issues of sports club management.
