Abstract
This study is intended to research and develop a modular jewelery design that can be recreated according to the modern sensibility by applying Korea’s unique symbolic and original traditional culture image, and thus to induce the start of further studies with the aim to revitalize the stagnant domestic jewelry market by giving it a new opportunity for competitiveness.
In recent years, there have been changes in the needs of consumers. More specifically, consumers are interested in various shapes and desired experience satisfaction. Thus, it is essential to research the products that reflect this needs. Thus, this methodological study seeks to present the directions of design by researching the structural, functional and usability of modular jewelery and thus to realize new possibilities by applying the image of Hunminjeongeum and traditional knot, the traditional elements of Korean culture to enhance the decorative features.
In addition, the domestic jewelery market consists mainly of products based on foreign trends, and there are few jewelery products containing the cultural elements that incorporate traditional Korean culture and technology.
Through this study, the author has designed the image of Hunminjeongum, which is a traditional element, and the formative and harmonious form of the traditional knot ornamentally; complemented the problems with the connection and method, and structural idea of the modular pieces through Rhino and 3D Printing modeling test; thus developed developing a connection method that can be used freely using this process; and will develop the modular jewelery that is differentiated and competitive by reflecting traditional culture to design.
