Abstract

The objective of this study is to determine the characteristic of center of pressure(COP) for quiet stance(QS) on each anteroposterior(AP) and mediolateral(ML) platform.
So we recruited healthy dextropedal adult men(n=22, age=22.64±1.99) for the experiment. COP oscillations of each QS on the flat, AP, and ML from left and right feet were calculated, and COP variables were set to maxima, minima, displacement, velocity, and distance. Statistics was set significant level to .05.
On the flat, QS showed no significant difference between left and right feet in the COP variables, whereas AP and ML platform showed difference between left and right feet in the maxima and minima of x axis with significance(p<.001). QS on AP, ML, and the flat have significant differences in the displacement and velocity of COP from x and y axis of each left and right feet(p<.001). In addition, the numerical value of QS on AP and ML were greater than QS on the flat, and QS on ML was greater than QS on AP. The displacement and velocity of COP which were occurred on AP and ML platform were 170~332% greater than QS on the flat. And the COP oscillations of x axis(mediolateral direction) were greater than oscillations of y axis(anteroposterior direction) on AP and ML platform.
Consequently, It have to be considered to apply AP direction previously than ML direction for balance training. Furthermore, the difference of oscillation between left and right feet in ML direction can induce the injury risk of the balance training, so the intentional perturbations should be implemented to the subject with caution.
