Abstract

There are two creation myths, <Bepodoupchim> and <ChonjiwangBonpuri>, which are performed at the very beginning of the Jeju IslandGut(shaman rituals) in Korea.
Those myths tell about;(1) people on earth suffered from two suns and two moons,(2) evil character Sumyung Jangja(rich person) who deceived peopleand treat his father badly.
(3) the earthly evils due to SobyulWang who occupied this world bycheating his own brother DaebyulWang.
Two suns and two moons are a kind of evil to human beings, too. SoDeabyulWang and SobyulWang got rid of ones of the twos completely.
And we can sometimes do away with social evils of the person likeSumyung Jangja. The real problem is that the one who saved people byshooting the sun and moon away is the very cause of the earthly evilssuch as robbery, homicide, adultery, etc.
This ironical situation compells us to pond over the problem of theperpetuity of the evilness on this world. As long as the evils are not tovanish on this world, there is no paradise or utopia. So <Bepodoupchim> and <Chonjiwang Bonpuri> raised a question; how to live with evils.
I also discussed about the history of our civilization containing theevilness from the dawn, prehistoric age to Bronze age; evil is related withthe civilization itself.
Cool-headed understanding of no paradise here in this world keep usaware of the evils in actual existence.
