Abstract
The advent of digital publishing has made it difficult to predict the future due to the crisis in the paper book publishing industry, but more than two decades later, the publication of paper books still continues. This is because the paratext elements that form around the content of the book are developing more and more, influenced by digital publishing. This trend has been particularly active in paper books that differentiate the way they are made, which is why they continue to be published in the digital publishing environment. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to analyze the paratext that appears in the later part of the paper book making process, such as bindings and post-processing, to analyze the factors that increase the completeness of the paper book and to further expand them to present new possibilities for paper book publishing.
Based on the literature data and prior research, I studied the concept and transformation process of paratext, and I could see that the paratext elements of paper books that continue to develop in the digital environment were the best elements of paper books. A case was selected for analysis focusing on books that are distinguished from the general books and their structural forms, and items were evaluated to determine how many of the four best elements of paper books, such as collection (value of possession), aesthetic impression (aesthetic value), commercial value (creativity), and sensitivity (analogue), were contributed to the completion of the paper. Based on five examples of various books published by SendPoint (SendPoints Publishing) and published in <ART IN BOOK FORM> and <ART IN BOOK VOL.2>, the paratext elements that experts pay attention to at the stage of publication were investigated and analyzed for each item.
Analysis shows that paratext factors, which are shown through differentiation of the method of making, are influencing the collection and aesthetic impression of paper books, thus increasing their value and completeness as goods.
