Abstract

In the past, domestic large-scale apartments were not equipped with air conditioners, and only heating systems were installed, in which the centralized large boiler was the main heating system. Since the 2000s, considering construction convenience, individual heating systems have been widely applied in apartments. Recently, however, issues of energy-saving and eco-friendliness have made centralized cooling and heating systems using renewable energy, an important alternative. In this study, three types of cooling and heating systems using geothermal source heat pumps, are suggested and analyzed. Those are (1) a general heat model, (2) a heat storage model that uses inexpensive late-night electricity for managing loads at night, and stores surplus heat for the day, and (3) a combined model using co-generation. Initial investment cost was calculated for each model. The general heat model is simple, and initial investment cost is the lowest, which is advantageous for actual application. The heat storage model using late-night electricity is not efficient, because cooling and heating loads of apartments occur during the entire day, contrary to offices in which loads occur during half of the day. The largest initial investment cost is required for the combined model, and is not recommended for apartments.
