Abstract
The demand for commercialization of information and communication technology and the virtual world has increased, triggering a rapid growth of the market for Augment Reality (hereinafter, “AR”), along with an emergence of applications & services that have integrated AR in the smart beauty industry. Thus, this study aims to draw an inference about elements to evaluate usability of the application that would provide a simulation service for hair styles and conduct an analysis of its usability. This application is expected to serve as the foundation to develop AR content focused on users in the beauty industry. To that end, the study defined theoretical backgrounds for the smart beauty industry, AR and the usability test trough advance research, and analyzed the status and characteristics of AR that has been adopted by the smart beauty industry. Also, it drew an inference about elements of usability by conducting in-depth interviews and questionnaires with professionals, and undertook a survey on usability by selecting a hair simulator. The 12 elements to evaluate usability have been inferred from the interviews and the 1st round questionnaires, and by applying these, the usability test of the hair simulator based on AR was administered. The result of the questionnaires showed that the simulator lacks the following elements, which has impact on user satisfaction: conformity between reality and AR; the accurateness that means presence; and partial aesthetic features regarding the interface from the viewpoint of users. The study proposes the 12 elements to evaluate usability of the beauty application based on AR, which are differentiated from those from the previous media.
