Abstract
This study examined the situations and characteristics involving the subjects and raw materials of current-affair documentaries aired on Korean national broadcasting channels including KBS1, KBS2, MBC, SBS in 2011. In particular, this study analyzed the duplicity and diversity of those subjects and raw materials of current -affair documentaries by employing a content analysis. The results of this study were as follows. First, involving the subjects of current-affair documentaries Korean TV channels dealt the most highly with social(including religion) subjects, and then economy, nature/environment(including animals and plants), health/well -being(including foods), education/schooling subjects in turn. In particular, SBS did not handle political subjects, SBS and MBC dealt much more with economy subjects, MBC dealt overwhelmingly with social(including religion) subjects, KBS 1 & 2 dealt somewhat with culture/human subjects, KBS1 and SBS dealt much more with nature/ environment(including animals and plants) subjects, and KBS1 dealt much more with health/well-being subjects comparing to other subjects. Second, involving the raw materials of domestic current-affair documentaries there has been a variety of stories based on diverse raw materials. Third, involving the duplicity and diversity of the subjects of domestic current-affair documentaries, there has been found considerable duplicities in social(including religion), economy and nature/environment (including animals and plants) subjects. Other subjects, however, were relatively produced and broadcasted in diverse ways. Fourth, involving the duplicity and diversity of the raw materials of domestic current-affair documentaries, relating to the duplicities of between-channels and within-a channel, it has been found partial duplicities in the raw materials of each channels' concerning issues. In the case of the diversity of the raw materials of domestic current-affair documentaries there has overall been diverse raw materials that were almost evenly distributed across the channels.
