Abstract
An open-plan office which appeared in the late 19th century has been used over the centuries as the most representative business environment today. It acts as a background that excellent workability, cost advantage in terms of maintaining, smooth flow of information, and the advantage of being effective collaboration. But in the 21st century knowledge-based society, while providing the same work environment of 20th century industrial society with KW who activities based on digital technology meanwhile, it cannot be expected that KW who work in different ways from white-collar worker will work creatively in same place. This study collected key words related with KW work environment through literature review. Based on this, this study extracted the constitutive properties of 'focus, collaboration, social and learning space of important KW’ main works. The spatial characteristics of KW work environment presented in this study are results of research by visualizing socio-economical and psychological impact on the physical environment into architectural term. Results of the study are expected to function as a strategic framework of Knowledge workplace design and leaved a future research regarding judgment of suitability over the results through user survey.
