Abstract
This study conducts empirical analyses to identify some sources of rising trends in workers’ job satisfaction in contrast to that of other OECD countries over the period of 2002-2020 in Korea, utilizing KLIPS. For the purpose this study employs three stage models by Baron and Kenny(1986) based on fixed effects panel data model. We pay attention to pay, working hours, and contingent workers as the sources. The results of this study indicate that pay and working hours explain the rising national trend in workers’ job satisfaction complementarily, but that contingent workers explains it rather supplementarily. Pay and working hour explain about 62.7 and 10.7 percents of the variability of the trend respectively. Because the ratio of contingent workers increases over the time period, the employment status made contribution to lowering job satisfaction. Finally the results are summarized, and their implications are discussed.
