Abstract

Most public transportation billing systems used around the world are tag-based fare payment technologies linked to NFC (Near Field Communication) or barcodes / QR codes. In addition to tag-based fare payment technology, research on technology without tagging is in progress. The Gate-Free system is a next-generation fare payment system that can eliminate gates; it is also a contact-less billing technology. The Gate-Free system uses a smart block installed on the floor and, to proceed with payment, communicates via a terminal with a user passing it. To implement this system, terminal location tracking technology on the smart block is essential. In this paper, we analyze the characteristics of the electromagnetic wave environment between the smart block and the terminal, propose a beamforming technology using sum and delta beams for terminal location tracking, and present results.
