Abstract
This study is an analysis study on ammonium nitrogen removal rate and nitrite conversion rate using sludge thickener supernatant and anaerobic digester supernatant from sludge treatment process. Operation data were investigated by using laboratory scale reactor in various operational conditions for approximately 190 days. As results of laboratory scale reactor, nitritation was stably induced at sludge thickener supernatant 1day, anaerobic digester supernatant 2days due to selectional culture of ammonium oxidizing bacteria in reactor. Ammonium nitrogen removal rate and nitrite conversion rate were changed depending on SRT and the maximum nitrite conversion rate was each 0.19 Kg N/m 3 ·day, 0.45 Kg N/m 3 ·day at sludge thickener supernatant and anaerobic digester supernatant during operation. Therefore anaerobic digester supernatant superior to sludge thickener supernatant at nitritation, the reason was considered high ammonium nitrogen concentration and COD fraction. These results of study are expected to contribute increase availability of nitritation in wastewater treatment.
