Abstract

Recently A number of people visit the tourist spots in mountainous areas using automobiles for leisure purposes. But the roadways connecting the areas inevitably have lots of slopes and curves and they function as accident hazards. Also, carbon dioxide and particulate matters cause and worsen pollution and climate change effects to not only visitors but also delicate ecosystem around the mountains. The heavy congestion due to rushing visitors durinig peak seasons increase trip duration and lower the capacity and efficiency of the roadway network. In addition, frequent closure because of frozen snow in winter seriously limits the right of mobility of vicinity residents. To solve these problems and enhance added value in mountain tourism, various countries have been trying to establish sustainable transit system by introducing mountainous railway. Although there are already the domestic research projects and field trial plans of mountainous railway, it needs investment assessment improvement for actual operation. Therefore, this study conducted the stated preference survey and conjoint analysis to deduce the basic unit to calculate the latent tourism benefits. We inferred the priority order between service elements of tourism by visitors' perception based on the outcome and provided the improvement strategy for current investment assessment guidelines to include newly quantified benefits.
