Abstract
The purposes of this study are to evaluate the frequency of overuse injuries and to calculate the prevalence of overuse chronic injuries in Taekwondo Breaking-Maneuver-competitors. In methods, a total of 230 male athletes (age range from 18-56) participated in the competition (Dec 03, 2011). Among these competitors, 205 athletes were participated in this study. A simple check-off form was used for the injury report. Additionally, a standardized open-ended interview by telephone was performed post competition in 10days. In results, a total of 94 overuse chronic injuries reported. Overall prevalence rate of chronic injury was 41%(CI: 0.34-0.47). The overuse injury rate showed significant differences in BMI, training frequency, and past injury history(p≦.05) via x2-test. In conclusions, the prevalence rate of overuse injury was relatively high in Taekwondo Breaking- Maneuver-competitors. To reduce and prevent the object-breaking-technique related overuse chronic injuries, understanding on the signs and symptoms of overuses injuries by athlete him or herself and coaches is necessary. Also, the government organization of Taekwondo should be considered providing education programs related this issue. In addition, continuous research on this topic are needed.
