Abstract

Since baseball was introduced in 1982, baseball has become popular in Korea It is important for players to learn fundamental techniques as well as tactics and strategies of baseball. Baseball is a game where the advantage goes to the pitcher. Effective pitching is vitally important in baseball. Most teams utilize pitching drills and pitcher-specific trainings that are aimed to improve velocity and accuracy. The current study explored aerodynamics of baseball and pitching techniques with fastball, breaking ball, and changeup and investigated strategies to effectively deal with various situations for pitchers and hitters.
The fastball relies on speed and it is usually easy for pitchers to control. Fastball can be effective if it travels faster than time for batters to react but when it is not fast enough, it is the easiest type of pitch for batters. The breaking ball is a pitch that does not travel straight as it gets closer to the batter. It is generally slower than the fastball, therefore if a breaking ball fails to break, it is easy for the batter to hit. The changeup is a type of pitch that initially travels similarly with the fastball but arrives much more slowly to the plate. It is meant to confuse the batters timing. However, if the ball doesn’t have enough change in velocity then it is easy to hit.
