Abstract
Parametric design is a way for designers to design shapes in the correct sequence according to a given algorithm using the values entered in the parameters without modeling in an intuitive way. This method is used not only in modern modeling tools, but in the design of buildings in which small structures of varying shapes, such as atypical buildings, are repeatedly used. In this study, the characteristics of the parametric design were applied to the hole pattern design of industrial design field to create algorithms for designing various types of hole patterns designed to date. For this purpose, about 200 hole pattern images were collected, their pattern design features were classified into 7 groups, and algorithms were created to design each pattern. Algorithms generated using one of parametric design tool called Grasshopper help to create various hole patterns quickly and easily and produce more creative and diverse design results in less time than designers created by manual. We hope that the 7 liner hole pattern design algorithms derived from this study will be useful for product designers to design new hole patterns.
