Abstract

Purpose: This research was studied to investigate Korean soldiers' realization and opinion on the necessity of introduction of military optician and eye-glasses supply system to the Korean armed forces.
Method: We did a survey of 94 Korean soldiers wearing eye-glasses with a questionnaire consist of 9 questions. From analysing their responses, the results were drawn about conditions of optometry management in Korean armed forces, soldiers' opinion on the introduction of military optometry system, and preference on desirable system.
Result: About half of soldiers have an experience of broken eye-glasses, but Korean forces'management and countermeasure on it is insufficient. High rate of soldiers hope supply of eye-glasses and introduction of military optical specialist by the armed forces. They have preference of indirect non-military optometry services to direct military optometry services.
Conclusion: Considering of two aspects of soldiers' welfare and improvement of fighting power, introduction of optometry management system to the Korean military forces including eye-glasses supply and military optician is quite needed.
