Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine reading aloud, as one of the educational activities to improve Korean language learners' fluency in Korean speech. Reading aloud, unlike simply pronouncing a text, is a reading method in which the process of decoding and re-expressing the text occurs simultaneously. In this study, the stages of reading are divided into five stages: pronunciation and vocalization of segments, break reading by breath unit, break reading by information unit, breath unit setting for break reading, and reading by emotional tone or context. These five stages were adopted in class activities for a semester. One of the essentials in designing read-aloud curriculum is the reading materials. In this paper, the researcher utilized the audiobooks provided by NAVER Audioclip (https://audioclip.naver.com/), judging that the learners should have several good reading materials. With the materials, the learners first understood how they should be read in chunks, and then were able to read aloud with appropriate speed, intonation, and pause.
