Abstract
In addition to the discourse of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, which calls for innovation through technology such as 3D printing, IoT, big data, and artificial intelligence in all manufacturing, production, and management sectors globally, The horizon of related studies and activities are also rapidly expanding. Today’s maker culture has a different context from personalized DIY, otaku culture, and consumerism, which touch the production kits in the house or deal with self-made products. This article looks at the growth of maker culture at the end of the neoliberal system, which has been gradually falling since 2008, in the overproduction of capital caused by underconsumption due to falling profits of Capital and increasing Precarity of life. This article considers that the proliferation of ‘maker culture’ and summoning of ‘maker’ subject matter are historical rather than suddenly emerging trends of consumer society. In addition, it diagnoses the trend of the maker’s movement which is actively active in Korea, criticizes the government-led maker’s movement that is instrumentally fused by the state and capital, and examines the resistance possibility of the maker’s movement. Through this, we explore maker’s communities and networks can lead to ‘association’ go beyond countries and capital as a regulative idea.
