Abstract
Korean dramas influence beyond Asia as they began to air simultaneously in Korea and China by adopting 'pre-production' technology. Chinese viewers are aware of the various genres of Korean drama and interested in the "fashion items" that appeared in the Korean drama and also increase consumption. Singers of Korea as well as Korean dramas have led to a “Hallyu (Korean Wave)” culture in music, fashion, film sectors. "You come from the stars" which was broadcast in China leads to 'Chimaek (chicken and beer)' and increases sales in Korean style chicken restaurants in China. This paper analyzes reasons why Korean dramas are so popular in China and discusses the impact on Chinese culture and industry. This study is expected to help for understanding the market trend and needs of consumers in China by looking at how Korean dramas affect the consumption on Chinese cultural industry.
