Abstract
As the area of modern design expands, various methodologies are needed. In particular, it is necessary to study a typography arrangement suitable for new dimensions and media, and changing social situations. The purpose of this study is, based on the ‘arrangement’ of typography, to (1) propose a method of “irregular disassembled arrangement” that deviates from the universal disassembly method, and (2) examine the significance in terms of typography. The research method is to (1) examine the meaning of typography’s arrangement, rules, irregularity, and disassembly, (2) analyze the works that the researcher has attempted step by step from 2010 to the present, and (3) derive the meaning of “irregular disassembled arrangement” as a typography arrangement method based on the analysis results. The core principle of typography is the arrangement. The arrangement is based on strict rules, but the arrangement of modern typography is being developed through various irregular experiments. The arrangement of typography proceeds in the order of disassembly and assembly. The researcher experimented with Hangeul typography works focusing on irregular disassembly over a decade. Most of the works are related to social issues, and are composed only of Korean text without elements such as images. The main feature of the irregular disassembled arrangement is to focus on the form of arrangement that is accidentally created by blurring the grammatical structure of information. It is also an experiment on the new possibility of Hangeul typography arrangement. The typographic significance of the irregular disassembled arrangement found from the analysis results of the works is (1) proposing an irregular disassembled arrangement method, (2) acquiring hidden formativeness, (3) arranging using Hangeul characteristics, and (4) emphasizing messages through acquiring readers’ attention.
