A direct adaptive control using generalized predictive control

Abstract

A direct adaptive control scheme which minimizes an N-step cost function is proposed. It is derived via a generalized predictive control (GPC) algorithm under the assumption that the first N steps of the unit step response of the plant are known. The proposed adaptive control scheme is shown to have the same stability properties as the GPC and requires a small amount of calculation compared to other adaptive algorithms which minimize N-step cost functions. It is also shown through simulations that the proposed adaptive control scheme is robust to the variation of the unit step response.
