A howling margin enhancement method using all-pass filters with phase dispersion

Abstract

The acoustic gain of an audio system is limited owing to the howling generated by an acoustic feedback circuit. In this paper, we propose a novel method to enhance howling margin in die audio amplifier systems. In order to eliminate unexpected potential howling frequencies, the method controls the phase around the howling frequency by using all-pass filters with phase dispersion. The howling margin is shown experimentally to be improved by around 3 dB.
