A Low-Loss 8 GHz CMOS SPDT Switch for Upper-Mid Band Beamforming Applications

Abstract

This paper presents the design of a low-loss SPDT switch targeting the 7.125-8.4 GHz upper-mid frequency band, a promising candidate for future 6G communication systems. Implemented in 65-nm bulk CMOS technology, the switch achieves low insertion loss and high isolation in both transmit and receive modes. A mode-dependent impedance tuning technique improves performance without significantly increasing complexity. Measured results show an insertion loss of 1.62 dB and isolation of 35.2 dB at 8 GHz in Rx mode. The proposed design demonstrates potential for integration into compact, energy-efficient beamforming systems for next-generation wireless networks.
