Abstract
This paper examines feng shui as an ancient discipline of architecture for its contribution in the creation of the built environment in East Asia. It is observed that feng shui emerged over a long time, and reflects a particular cosmology. The paper argues that the speedy proliferation of feng shui in many parts of the world, especially at the threshold of a new millennium, appears to be a response to modern nihilism as well as representing a naive taste for the exotic.
