Abstract

In this study, the effect of a vertical porous fence on wind speed reduction was numerically investigated. The numerical simulations were conducted based on the two-dimensional equation of turbulent flow. Unstructured grid was employed to solve the flow field using the k-e model for three fence heights of several porosities. It was found that the streamwise wind speed behind along the half height of the fence is about six times smaller than that of inlet velocity at the critical value of porosity. which is around 40 for the three heights considered. The reduction in wind speed was found to be approximately twenty times that in the fence height.
