Abstract

A tremendous data boom is affecting many organizations worldwide, creating new opportunities and challenges. Big data will therefore be crucial in the future to address many of the shortcomings of older infrastructures. However, these new challenges result in the need for management strategies and infrastructure. The Integrated Rule-Oriented Data System (iRODS), an open-source cyberinfrastructure that utilizes data grids to address issues with data management, is the subject of this research. In this paper, by presenting some of the earlier systems, we examine the application of the iRODS in data management and provide some explanations of the system architectures.
