Abstract

We propose an approach to assess, and thus, update the technology roadmapping process. Building on extant literature, we define the ideal roadmapping process and suggest an integrated framework to guide its improvement from three perspectives: process maturity, system elements, and contextual validity. To verify its effectiveness, we applied the proposed approach to roadmapping conducted by a Korean government agency responsible for technology planning at the national level. We found that the assessment guidelines could help an organization systematically identify its roadmap process's strengths and weaknesses to build an approach toward process enhancement.
