Abstract

Artificial Bee Colony (ABC) algorithm is a heuristic optimization algorithm inspired by the process that honey bee swarm find the best food source. The ABC algorithm can efficiently find a global solution on each various problem compared with previous optimization algorithms such as genetic algorithm (GA) and particle swarm optimization (PSO). In this paper, amplitude and phase of each 40-element on 1-D uniform linear array are simultaneously optimized using ABC algorithm. Furthermore, a solution space of ABC algorithm, representing the amplitudes and phases, is discretized as 6-bit control for application to digital environments. The synthesized pattern results based on discrete-ABC algorithm are verified with comparison to a desired beam pattern mask.
