Abstract
Knock-on delay is a part of train delay and is caused by an initial (primary) delay of other trains. Therefore, obtaining more precise knock-on delay is a critical issue for infrastructure managers and train operators. In this paper, we introduce the STRELE equation, an analytical model for knock-on delay and analysis of its applicability in high-speed railway. The STRELE equation uses primary delay, buffer time, and headway time as parameters. We found that knock-on delay showed high sensitivity to buffer time in the STRELE equation. Tested on the Gyeongbu HSR Line, knock-on delay calculated by STRELE and that observed are statistically the same.
