Abstract

A dual-band (UHF: 470-862MHz, L: 1452-1492MHz) digital video broadcasting-handheld antenna is presented. The proposed antenna is composed of a meaner line inverted-L shape and loop antenna for the broadband performance. The measured operation bandwidth of the antenna (VSWR<3.5) is 400MHz (470-870MHz) at UHF band and 300MHz (1380-1680MHz) at L-band. Moreover, it has an approximately omnidirectional radiation pattern within operation bandwidth with peak gain values of more than -2.8 dBi (average peak gain -1.2 dBi and average efficiency 65.5). The antenna makes contact with a portable media player case (εr=3.2) which is used as a substrate for the size reduction and compact design.
