Abstract

The performance of the data communication network based on the power line media is affected by various types of noises and interferences. Especially, in case of the home network systems based on the power line communication, sgme of the major sources include the surge protection device whose impedance characteristics depends on the applied voltage and the AC-DC converter which supplies direct electric current to the communication devices connected to the network. These types of electric load could distort the channel characteristics in the frequency domain or generates the interferences in the specific frequency band which results in the performance degradation of the overall system. This paper discusses methods for improvement of the channel characteristics. The effects of the frequency selective distortion phenomenon due to the surge protection device and the impulsive interference in the narrow frequency band are experimentally analyzed. The applied compensation method is tested in the various channel environments and the performance comparison in terms of date rate confirms the effectiveness of the method.
