Abstract

The construction of an interpenetrated metal-organic polymer was studied. The reactions of zinc salts with 1,2-trans-(4-pyridyl)ethene were also investigated. A coordination-driven self-assembly directing a light-induced [ 2 + 2] cyclodimerization in solution was discussed. It is observed that the counter anions appear to be the driving force for organizing the olefinic double bonds to undergo [2 + 2] photodimerization.
