Abstract
Purpose The purpose of this study was to examine the mediation effect of positive affect between leisure time physical activity(LTPA) and parenting stress. Methods The survey was commissioned by an online survey company(called Embrain), and a total of 609 mothers were included. The data were analyzed by structural equation model using SPSS Win Ver, 250. and Amos 25.0. Result First, the degree of mother’s LTPA affected positive affect. Second, the level of positive affect affected negatively on parenting stress. Third, the degree of mother’s LTPA did not affect parenting stress. In other words, the level of positive affect completely mediated the relationships between participation in leisure sports and parenting stress. Conclusion Findings of this study provide evidence that in the COVID-19 pandemic situation, the mothers’ LTPA is an important vehicle of relieving parenting stress. This study suggests that positive experiences through LTPA can be a key to reducing parenting stress and improving the quality of life of mothers in the COVID-19 pandemic situation.
