Curvature estimation method of a articulated railway vehicle running a curve section

Abstract

To estimate the curvature of an articulated railway vehicle, this study proposed a curvature estimation method that considers the geometric behavior of articulated railway vehicles running across curved sections. To examine and verify the theoretical validity of the proposed curvature estimation method, a curvature estimation analysis was performed. As a result of on-track test using the articulated railway vehicle, the error compared to the curvature of track measuring data is 0.92%, which is very close to the curvature of the track measuring data. Therefore, it is expected that the proposed curvature estimation method for articulated railway vehicles will be widely used as a practical curvature estimation method during railway vehicle development as well as to test evaluation fields requiring curve detection.
