Abstract

Slag-based alkali-activated concrete (AAC) of high strength (60 MPa) has been newly developed as an eco-friendly alternative to Portland cement-based normal concrete (NC). In the present study, cyclic loading tests were conducted for precast AAC columns and beam–column joints to investigate the structural performance of AAC. In the column tests, a monolithic NC, a precast NC, and a precast AAC specimens were tested under constant axial load. In the beam-column joint tests, a monolithic NC and a precast AAC specimens were tested. The test results showed that the structural performance of the precast AAC specimens were comparable to that of monolithic or precast NC specimens in terms of failure mode, strength, energy dissipation, and deformation capacity. The tested strengths agreed with the nominal strengths calculated by ACI 318-19 and KDS 14 20 20: 2023 for columns and ACI 318-19 and KDS 14 20 80: 2023 for beam-column joints, respectively. These results indicate that the current design codes can be applicable to the design of precast AAC columns and beam-column joints when the same concrete material and precast details were used.
