Abstract

In this study, we design and develop a prototype of a high-resolution hyperspectral imaging (HSI) payload for small-satellite applications. A proposed elliptical focal spot for the HSI design using Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) elements, optimized by ray tracing software, generates a super number of spectral resolutions but significantly compromises spatial resolution. A dual-sensing system consists of the proposed HSI combined with a high-resolution RGB camera that simultaneously scans a homogeneous field of view, and the data is fused to generate a hyperspectral image with high spatial resolution using data fusion techniques. A potential prototype significant in bridging academic and industrial issues in the development of small satellites for remote sensing missions.
