Abstract
This paper examines the determinants of the environmental behavior of Korean immigrants in the United States. Focusing on environmental values, awareness, and perception, this research attempts to answer the following questions: What is those immigrants' overall impact on the environment? What determines an individual's environmental behavior? And how do individual environmental concerns and attitudes affect environmental behavior? Using a binary probit regression model, this study finds that environmental values reflecting new environmental attitudes are positively associated with pro-environmental behavior. In contrast, neither environmental awareness nor pro-environmental perception turned out to be statistically significant in explaining environmental behavior. Study results and policy implications provided in this study will be useful to Korea, which faces policy challenges associated with receiving newcomers from a variety of countries.
