Abstract
In recent years, the price competitiveness of the road transport sector has decreased, whereas the interest in the railway industry has increased. However, the domestic rail market remains limited. This condition has highlighted the significance of overseas markets. For the overseas expansion of the domestic railway industry, its market structure and technological level should be understood objectively. However, these aspects are yet to be analyzed. In this study, we used the diamond model introduced by M. Porter to analyze the competitiveness of the railway supply industry. We developed a competitiveness analysis model for railway supply industries and adopted this model for a competitiveness analysis. The current position of the railway supply industry in Korea was investigated accurately in this study, the results of which are expected to contribute to the establishment of an international railway market strategy.
