Abstract
A numerical analysis of the micro-discharge in an AC plasma display cell has been made using the time-dependent, 2-dimensional multi-fluid equations to understand the VUV emission characteristics of He-Xe discharge. The time dependent distributions of the electron temperature, densities of electrons, various ions and excited species, and the effects of the wall charges accumulated on the dielectric surface are obtained. A direct observation of 2-dimensional, time dependent behavior of VUV spectra from a single discharge cell is obtained using a gated, image intensified CCD and compared with the results of computer simulation to check the models and elucidate the discharge physics of a surface type AC PDP.
