Abstract

This paper present the results of investigating the effective width of deck-slabs in multi-girder steel-concrete composite bridges. A general solution technique is developed for analyzing these structures. A set of biharmonic equations are employed to solve a set of differential equations for plane stress and flexural displacement ofthe portion of deck between girders. By using these analytical solutions, a parametric study is made on the effects of several factors influencing the effective slab width of multi-girder composite structures. The factors include type and portion of load, ratio of girder spacing and span length, geometric configurations of composite girders and thickness of slab.
